For Your Inspection… / This piece is a 12-foot long replica of one of the greatest hoaxes in American history. In the late 19th century a stone giant was claimed to have been unearthed in upstate New York; and drew thousands to see it on its East Coast tour. P.T. Barnum attempted to buy the attraction, but was rebuffed. Subsequently he made a copy of the hoax and exhibited it as genuine with even greater success due to his superior promotional skills. After exhibiting my replica, I buried it; creating the potential for a future hoax while reversing the history of its production.
